Rubber Duck Caving Club shared Robbie Shone Photography's photo.

Awesome...

Sam Allshorn in Boxhead Pot, Yorkshire Dales. A caption I'm working on:

The slow but constant action of water upon rock has sculpted out hundreds of thousands of kilometres of wild yet beautiful passages beneath the Earth's surface. These passages lie for the majority of the time in complete darkness, far from the reaches of human eyes. Boxhead Pot in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, England, is part of this unique underground world; in its depths it contains a 30 m deep shaft, beautiful glistening passages and foreboding black walls. This photograph captures a brief moment in time as water tumbles against the rock in a story that has evolved over many thousands of years and remains far from finished.

The photograph was both fun and interesting to make. Since caves do not receive natural light, it is up to the photographer to provide and balance it. If photographing in complete darkness is not enough of a challenge, the caver and I were also both suspended in free air, spinning continuously on the same length of rope. Whilst the snow melted on the surface, icy cold water plummeted down the shaft. The noise was deafening and communication near impossible. Eventually, in the harsh conditions amongst all the spray my flashguns began to fail and the shoot was over. — at The Yorkshire Dales.
